Hey all- I currently have a 26g mixed reef stocked with a tailspot blenny and two clowns who have paired with a pink bubble anemone. I have trouble keeping nitrates above 2ppm and have been dosing nitrates. So I figured why not add a fish or two to increase nitrate production. I am wondering what a good addition would be. I am thinking a royal gramma or filefish, and maybe a 6 line wrasse but that may be too big for 26g? Any ideas for fish would be great... maybe a blue green chromis. I am looking for something that gives movement and personality to the tank and will not eat the hermit crabs or kill the coral in my tank. I want something that is an active swimmer and not a percher. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I live in California and my LFS does not have the highest quality fish. What online vendors do y'all use?

personally not a six-line, they can be good but its really 50/50. With that tank, I think you could squeeze 2 more fish in as long as they occupy different areas. The basic pistol shrimp and watchman combo is a good one, you could do a smaller one like a high fin or Yasha if you have the budget. And for the second fish either a bangaii cardinal, a royal gramma (or black cap basselet), and if you want to push your luck an orchid dottyback as a final addition! Hope this helps

Firefish is an option. Mine is a huge swimmer and gets along peacefully with my clowns and watchman goby. They're cute little guys too. I love watching mine swim around.

I heard emperor angelfish are great for a 26g!

Jokes aside I think a firefish would be cool like Alycia mentioned. Some are a quite shy but they make for a fun personality. Just be sure to have a tight, secure lid because they are very much so jumpers. I’d say a six line/filefish are too much for the tank. Could go the royal gramma route too.

I would only add a six line if it was going to be the last fish added here. It won't bother the clowns if they are adults (Or rather - the clowns will laugh at his feeble attempts to bully them while they **** up his ****) but could go after the blenny. But I'd say 4 is the limit here. By adding it last you maximize the odds of it working out but it is still a gamble.

I have a similar size tank with two clowns, a neon dottyback, and a sixline. It only worked out because the dottyback and sixline were added at the same time after the clowns were already adults and everyone in the tank is an *******. There's no 'nice' fish for the others to pick on - sort of a MAD situation going on in there.

Also no on the chromis. They really get a lot bigger than you expect. Most of the time they just die but occasionally they get to 4 inches. They are very fast swimmers that really need more space than that.

Another vote for the firefish. Very safe bet for aggression. The clowns are currently the queen and king of the tank and they shouldn't mind a firefish.

I have a sixline in my 32 biocube. He does just fine with other fish and he is pretty small
