Hello, I’m back from the dead! After a few years of being reefless, I am once again planning my future build. And I think I like thus forum better as well. My search results have been more filling :)

So, Originally I had plans to build a planet aquarium peninsula tank 60”x36”x 20” eurobrace. This cost was going to be in the ball park of $2,800 for the tank only. The stand is not an issue as I can build a nice one regardless of size. However, being out of the hobby for a few years, the progression is outstanding. So many new toys to read about! Including the new innovative marine lagoon tanks!
The 112 is 36x36x20 and $1,300. This is less than half of what I planned to build. It has my eyebrows raised and I really like the design. Seeking real world experience from owners with this tank style/ overflow combo.
1. The wall to wall overflow across the back is my biggest concern. Powerhead mounting, access, etc
2. They offer an aluminum stand which seems ok at best for the cost, seems like it might be tough to mount things on the inside. I've seen a standalone cabinet on the side which seems nice

I'm leaning towards the 112 due to the location . Never had a cube and the 3' sump limit seems tough, what's the consensus on sumps for a cube style? The cube sumps seem awkward and limited vs using a standard sump 30" long or so.

Any input in these systems? Am I better off building my peninsula? Lemme have it!

Cube sumps are very difficult. I have a the 93 gallon (30x30x24) Marineland tank and end up only using the trigger cube sump which is only around 15-16 gallons of actual water volume.

It makes the refugium ineffective and the ATO constantly running due to the small footprint of the return chamber.

The tank themselves look beautiful, I would say you could maybe rig a 60 cube (24x24x24) into a sump to fit under it? The stand would need to be custom I believe to allow for the height but might be worth consideration.

112 is a lot more than I have, but consider your livestock wishes carefully. 3' is just a touch too small for a lot of the fish I'd like to have.

My concerns as well in regards to the sump. I’m hoping to find a nice 32” long x 18” wide sump to alleviate some of the difficulties you mentioned. I plan to build a 36” tall stand so everything on that should be ok! Thanks for the assist!

Yes, 3’ is a concern of mine as well. Although the diagonal is 4.2’ which at least gets me a little more than what appears. The only tang I plan on is a tomini, the rest of the stock will be smaller reef friendly species.
My biggest concern is regretting not going with the 5x3. Bit it’s double the cost, and double lighting, and nearly double the water volume. I’ve had big systems before and the 112 plus sump volume seems so manageable. And being able to use one halide really has a nice appeal to it!
Thanks for the assist!

I’m not a fan of cubes unless for a frag tank. As mentioned I would think about goals of tank inhabitants first. Sounds like peninsula looks good. There are a few good sumps that fit your size. Bashea, triton, and some other crazy expensive ones.

Welcome back, do a build thread once you decide if you would like
