Honest question, can a company not be in both businesses? The business of making money and the business of truly helping people?

Doing both will actually benefit both parties, business and consumers, far more than just trying to do one of them. Third party testers and reviewers are great but they all have a hidden agenda. At least with a business you know the agenda lol. The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t ;)

I don't know if I'd go that far. Maybe steering a certain direction. But again attacking a company doesn't help this conversation. I believe they are trying to give the best advise but also trying to keep their bosses happy as well. If they wanted to make the best and quickest buck they'd still be selling products that aren't trusted but are cheap and raise prices 1000%

Truly helping folks with no strings attached tends to put a damper on profit. As you said the devil you know beats the one you don't. The problem with the company is that the front of helping you is just that, a front. In the end they are about making money, lots of it. Also marketing the product that will maximize profit. I'm all about dollars and cents, I just hate being bs'ed about it. Oooohhhhh you should buy this and NOT buy this, not because its better/worse but because it does better for the companies bottom line.

High end aquarium lighting is a total money sinker for the buyer and the seller. Also bias is just about everywhere. As a whole, the consumer is too lazy to do their own research and will go with whatever sounds/ looks best at the time, which works out for the seller pretty well!

I'm going back to being a luddite about my craptacular T5 hybrid setups. Somehow this thread will be modded to death for one reason or another. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I doubt anything serious will happen with Kessil, and I’d like to think BRS isn’t just making up numbers to skew results. Having said that I do find useful info from them and at the same time don’t buy anything significant from them as I find them to generally be the highest price. Even on price controlled items… currently building a new 200EXT and with them charging sales tax where smaller people don’t… it would have cost me quite a few hundred more to buy it all from them and the argument is they don’t keep it… my rebuttal is why should I be obligated to pay significantly more for the privilege of shopping St some crazy thoughts lol.

Definitely not bashing any company. I think they said at the end his favorite is to use a Kessil as a center Sun and fill light strips as the sky or something like that. I have spent and will continue to spend money at BRS. I get what they’re doing with this lighting series it’s just been going on for so long it seems. What they’re doing must be working…we have this thread starting a conversation. Haha

Saying they are not hobbyists is factually not true. Have you ever been to their facility? I would bet NO after making that comment. I have been there a few times to pick up some items and was given a tour and I can tell you the majority of the people that work there are in fact hobbyist. Everyone's office, and there are many, have at least one tank and they are all very well taken care of. Better than most I see on this site. Also not one tank is identical as far as tank type, inhabitants and support equipment. Can you name me one major distributor for this hobby that sells quality products that does not look to make a profit?

Selling all mine now, they don't work! That's it
Odd how you said they were growing all types of coral in an earlier post in another thread. I'm sorry to hear that experience. Never great when a product doesn't work as well as you intended.

Over 70 tanks with most of them being run by the employee keeping the tank. It’s no small feat.

If it was SOLELY about bottom line and margins, they’d sell Jebao pumps, Amazon lights, and a certain popular salt I won’t name. All have ridiculous mark ups
