Hello all,
I have a mainly lps tank with the following corals
Torch
Frogspawn
Hammer
acan
favia
candycanes
pink goni
aleviapora
war coral
zoas
mushrooms
and a few assorted other LPS

My question is I spot feed reef roids 1-2 times a week with all pumps and return pump off. I never see feeding tentacles out on my candy canes, acans, my goni retracts when spot fed ( dont know if thats normal), my zoas close up, and my torch frogspawn and hammer is indifferent about it.
I see these amazing pictures esp of acans showing feeding tentacles but no matter what I do I never see such things in my tank. Anyone know why?

water params
salt: 1.027
Calc: 425
Alk: 9.1
Mag: 1350
Phos: .21
Nitrate: 4

I usually feed late in the day when that tank is transitioning into lunar lighting

Try KZ LPS Amino 30mins prior to feeding Roids and see if that changes. I had great success with that. It also depends on the nutrients in your water Column.

Goniopora do close up, but very slowly spray above them... that is a good thing when they look like they close up ( the stacks retract but the polyps stay open) typical response to feeding.

Try spraying them with the liquid from your thawed frozen food. About 5 minutes later, my large, hungry LPS (trachys, Acanthophyllia, bowerbankis, lobos) open up and are ready to feed. Then I drop some pellets or meaty bits of LRS on them and they inhale them. Regular feedings (2-3 times a week) will condition them to stay open.
