So I bought a 200 gallon mix box of ESV B-Ionic Seawater System mix that everyone talked so good about not to long ago on R2R! Today I prepared a 5 gallon bucket to try it out I followed very carefully mix batch chart instructions included in the box. I am so glad I tested the new batch water first or I would have probably of shocked about 10K of livestock!! I tested the new batch twice with Salifert. The salt was right on the money 1025 Alk 9.6 mag 1380 that was ok and calcium was 500. I am going to call ESV on monday and see whats going on any ideas????

5G wouldn't of come close to shocking your tank. Also those parameters seem fine to me. I hate chasing Ideal parameters I like to fine out what my salt puts my lvl and go from there.

That's not THAT big of a difference to shock, much less kill, the livestock.

wow you're really careful with your livestock haha, good for you. I honestly don't think that's that big of a difference either...especially when you're only doing a partial water change. But to each his own, I'm sure that's why all your livestock is so healthy haha

Not sure what your saying but those numbers are fine.... You could change 100 percent of your water and not have a problem.... From my exp what will cause you problems is big dealing little things like that and messing with the tank daily leads to disaster...:(

I don't see the problem either. I think you are expecting the salt to mix up precisely to your tank parameters? That is never going to happen. There is more to a salt mix than just these numbers. There is also a margin of error with hobbyist grade test kits. With your water change you'd only be making a very small percentage change in your alk, mag, and calcium and the corals are not sensitive enough to even notice such a small change. Though they definitely notice the chemicals contained in 1 part salts that prevent them from reacting and turning into an undissolved brick.

We use 100% new ESV at some trade shows and all the corals open up and the water stays crystal clear, even for 3 day shows. You couldn't do this with any one part mix.
