I’m sure it didn’t, but seems suspicious that a tank that’s been stable for a couple years had three fish die the night I moved coral from frag plugs to the live rock using a popular brand of purple “coraline” epoxy. Nothing else changed.

Tested water: 5 nitr, 0.03 phos, 1.026 sal, calc 400, alk 8, mag 1300.

Please alleviate my fears? Back to super glue for me.

Its possible and if so, would be the 3rd case in the last 7 months with epoxy used and livestock loss. I prefer to let mine cure 24 rather in water unless a small ball is used.

I use instant ocean hold fast.

Never had issues with it other then making my skimmer go AWOL and spit out non stop.
But i also follow vette advices and not use more then a tiny ball to hold frag plugs.

For scapes i rather cement with super glue, accelerator, powder.

I have had deaths from using the wrong epoxy. Found it from ICP tests. After I removed the section of rock that had that epoxy the heavy metals stopped leaking into my tank and dropped off my ICP results. It was an open tube of epoxy I had and I thought it was a coral one but was a house plumbing one.

This stuff depletes oxygen in your tank if a lot used.
Ok used a bit at a time.

I'm not sure I understand what you're meaning!
I use it all the time
Over the last 7 months there are two others who ironically used epoxy and had a huge loss of livestock
Its deemed reef safe but I prefer to use larger ball of it outside of tank
Did your skimmer go nuts?

I've used several tubes of JB water weld in the tank at a single time with SPS, LPS, inverts, fish, etc, ect found in a normal running reef tank with 0 issues.

Switched to it many years ago.

Depends on what you used. However- it would seem like the epoxy could be the culprit

How big is your tank?
A ball of epoxy in a 20g tank might be different than in a 200g.

Had to empty the skimmer cup three tones that same night. Then it was back to normal. You called it.

Yes, this is a sign that something in the compound was released while at low level but enough to affect water. Add or replenish carbon to reduce any risk and I recommend these two products for the future:

I also use JB water weld without issues to glue down frags. Cheap and you can buy it anywhere.

I use JB Waterweld and TLF Aquastik frequently with no issues. They do make the skimmer go nuts for a bit though.

What brand did OP use?
