Hey R2R,
Wanted to share my latest build in a Waterbox 25 peninsula. I just got back into the reef hobby this year after a 20-year break, and I am enjoying it all over again. The re-addiction started out as a 5-gallon Fluval freshwater shrimp tank "for the kids
" which was converted into a reef tank, and then quickly ran out of space and needed a bigger solution. I wanted to go larger, but the house manager said we had to complete a reno first, which makes sense, I guess, as replacing our floors are on the agenda, and it would be hard to move anything much bigger than the current tank .
The tank has been set up since April and has been doing well. My goal for this tank was a mixed reef that can sustain itself for at least 2 weeks due to work travel and the Wife not wanting to do a darn thing to it during that time. I am dosing AFR and Kalk, which is handled by a Hydros system that I have been pretty happy with.
Tank: WB 25 Peninsula
Light: Initially, it was running the Current R24 95W. Recently upgraded to a Noopsyche K7 pro III.
Pump: Current USA eFlux 6008
- The pump is nice, fits when placed at an angle in the sump, and needs mods similar to the Jebao pump others have recommended (Trimming down the intake threads). I went with this as when I had the R24 light and they were all controllable with a single app.
Wavemakers: Jebao ELW 3 and ELW 5.
- These are nice little wavemakers, and in my opinion, you can't beat them for the price. App setup for a schedule is easy after you get through the hurdle of connecting them.
Controller: Hydros collective of a X10, Launch, and a X2. I travel a decent amount of time, sometimes for up to two weeks and therefore the tank needed to be able to handle itself for the most part.
- IV for Salinity, pH and Alk monitoring
- 2mL Doser for handling Alk Dosing (dynamically driven by the pH measurements)
- Hydros ATO
Filter Roller:
- Reef n Roll Filter roller for Waterbox 25.
* Love this filter roller. I needed a filter roller solution that was powered to be able to handle when I am out of town for lengths at a time and this has been solid. Fitment is great and even if **** hits the fan and it runs out of filter fleece, there is a overflow built in so the tank doesnt run dry or overflow.
Other equipment:
- Cobalt Neotherm 100W heater
- VCA random flow generator
- Intank Media Basket for chamber 2
* Running Marine Pure Gems in middle and bottom level. Chemi pure blue in top level.
Live Stock:
- Tailspot Blenny
- Fire Fish
- Springers Damsel
- Kupang Damsel
- Hermits and Snails galore
- Tiger Tail Cucumber
- Corals are blend of LPS, SPS and Soft

Stand Build
- Used this tank to practice my cabinet building skills. I learned a lot along the way, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out, and I definitely have a list of what to do differently next time. The thing is solid for sure and more than sufficient for the weight of the tank with plenty of space below. It was built from 2x4 scraps and some thin plywood veneer.

I had Built a little side cabinet I thought would be nice to house all the Hydros stuff in but ended up scrapping the idea as it got poor reviews from the wife.
Equipment under the hood and Sump
- Two large reservoirs, one for Fresh and one for Kalk
- Two smaller reservoirs, one for AFR and one for the ALK reagent the Hydros IV uses.
- I have one of the Blink mini cameras in the cabinet to keep an eye while on vacation (or just obsessively while away from home), Also helps to observe when I am away and I remotely use the extra Kaomer doser down there to transfer Fresh RODI from a gallon jug into the ATO canister if it runs low. This gets me another 5 or so days of the tank running itself in a pinch or during extended trips.

The only setback I have is i need to cut the roll and empty the dirty side at about 3/4 the way through as the dirty side can get jammed when its roll gets too large. It still lasts about 3 weeks before that is a possibility so still a great automatic maintenance function for the tank.
Inhabitants Spotlights
The orange polyp/purple base cyphastrea is bouncing back, almost died in the transfer to this new tank due to prolonged time out of water while I decided on the aquascape. Looking forward to how it will look once it and the Purple/Green one take over this whole rock.
Close up of a micromussa that has been growing like crazy. Was a two polyp frag earlier this year from the Riptide Sale.
