I purchased a dog face puffer today.. he is brown and spotted and i’ve posted on facebook about him and people have said he looks good and he looks horrible. I’m aware he has a hazy eye which I plan to treat. LFS is feeding krill, only known issue of him is his beak needs filed some since it’s a little large

Ete is clouded over and may be water quality related. I see it appears to ne in quarantine and in QT, you want to monitor ammonia levels at minimum. What are you utilizing for filtration?
Can you provide a video under white light intensity so we can see breathing rate and overall fish behavior?
Is it breathing normal or labored?

We haven’t picked up the puffer yet, this is all I have for now to work with until we get him home. He’s going to be in FOWLR tank by himself since I don’t know his temperament yet but he seems to be doing fine with the panther grouper the lfs has in that tank as well. This puffer was dropped off to them by someone else and my lfs has low levels of copper in their systems as well. When I saw him today puffer seemed to be breathing normal, had tail tucked and showed a few signs of stress but nothing too major. I’m mostly worried about the eye right now but plan to treat more when I receive him

Tail tucked not abnormal with these and I would not bring home until the eyes are clear at minimum which can be water quality, flukes or injury

I will do a freshwater dip when I bring him home, it may be water quality from the previous owners tank since he was just dropped off yesterday. LFS does water changes weekly especially after they feed. Will check for injury

Freshwater dip can impose stress and with a fish traded in, you dont know what diseases if any the fish may have had an would be introducing into your system. This store should not even have it for sale until quarantined. FW dip offers temporary relief and does not remove parasites or flukes
Injury to eye can be from impact or netting and its not something that can be checked but rather treated,
This fish will require quarantining and medication prior to introduction to display tank

He will be in a tank by himself when he comes home, he’s going into his own tank. Plan to treat with copper and possibly kanaplex. He won’t be going into my DT since my DT has a porcupine puffer.
