I have a couple of photosynthetic gorgonian that I added a couple of months ago. They are doing well with good PE and look like new branches forming. They shipped embedded in a mound of putty mounted on a plug. I have never kept them before so my question is will they encrust over the putty or do they only grow new branches?
The left one isn't happy right now. I think a tang just brushed against it.

I’m not sure, but in the wild they have a hold fast base. Perhaps if the branch was leaning against a rock it might grab on like other soft coral & hard corals do?

Thanks for asking an interesting question, I had not thought about this one myself and I kept a gorgonion in the past and I don’t remember
