I just wanted to share this with the community, got it done in about a hour with 0 glass drilling experience. This can be done by anyone and im really happy with the results as you can have more space for equipment and still have your macro algae in your sump.

I am definitely following. I made an attempt at that years ago and didn't have much success. Looks like you have a better game plan than what I had.
Im not going to lie, i was very affraid of messing it up. But since i wasnt using the ato reservoir anyways i gave it a shot. There are some post and videos that show you how to do it but they all do the overflow and the inlet holes on the side, i did them both in the back because i hate to have pumps and pipes in the way.

This is a great mod as the stock ATO on these tanks is pretty small. I did something similar with mine though built it to house shrooms. I did notice a few days after doing this that my glass showed a vertical crack from the top edge into the hole I cut. Luckily it's above the water line and is within the emergency overflow hole.

@Eg0790 - What size tank did you use for the refugium? Are you running a pump to move water through it?

I had a crystal reef aquatics triton sump, which had lots of refigium space but i removed it because i need filtration and the triton method doesnt use a sock or a cup. Heres a picture of what i had before. Its for sale by the way.
