Hey everyone! Just wanted to see what your DIY light mounts look like. I have two brand new Kessil A360we’s and need to figure out a good way to mount them. I have studs right behind the ends of my 75 gallon and would like to work with those and mount something off the wall. Need some inspiration! Thank you!

I used 8020 for my custom mounts. I love’em!
XR30s / Orphek OR3 120 Blue.
Ordered the 80/20 from Tnutz.com

You can check out their official site:
8020.net - unfortunately you can’t order direct from them.
I ordered from Tnutz.com sent all my custom measurements. Whole kit cost me about $80... way cheaper than if I went with RMS mounts.
Let me know what questions you have. I have a parts list somewhere.

Wow that’s not bad at all for $80! I ended up getting some square aluminum rods and made a little frame to mount on my wall I figure I’ll screw some eye hooks and hang the lights off a small chain.

I am designing a light mount for my tank out of 80/20. Not sure of the actually bits and pieces, however this is my design in Sketchup. I really i will be able to mount extrusions either length size or width wise depending on the number of lights and positioning. my tank going to be 48" deep, so I going to need more more lighting to get appropriate spread and depth. I'm not exactly sure of the placement, so I wanted to be able to mount the lights for the correct coverage. I am planning of Orphek Alantek V4's. I'm also going to try and actuate the rack so it can rise out of the way for access to my tank.

Couple of questions:

8020.net doesn't sell direct? I though they did.Can you get 80/20 in colors ( anodized) from Tnutz?

How did you mount the lights to the 80/20, Are they suspended from it or attached directly to it * that would be my preference.

This other thread titled DIY kessil mount screw size indifference states that the center screw is 10-32.
So my question for you guys is how do you actually mount the light itself onto the aluminum bars? Does the 80/20 system come with parts containing mounting holes?? I don’t want to just zip tie the kessils to the 80/20 frame.
Thoughts??
