Discovered male clownfish dead and eggs

Hi all, I just found my male clownfish dead today. When I started looking for the female clownfish, I noticed that there are eggs! (for the first time) Is it possible that the female killed the male right after breeding?

They had been together for ~2 years. I had never noticed any bullying behavior between them (or any other fish in the tank).

True there's no way to know, but I thought the coincidence was very odd... anyway, I didn't do anything to get them to breed! Was not expecting it.

Kids are already asking to get a replacement, but not sure that adding a new fish to pair with is the best idea.

What species of clowns? I would hold off getting a new fish until something eats the eggs. That or get it and start quarantine but do not introduce them until the eggs are gone.
