Hi all - this was my first coral addition to my tank about 4 months ago and it has grown to about 4 inches in diameter. I am wondering if the Neglecta mushrooms have names for their variety/morphs other than just green or red.

Also wondering if this is mushroom propagates by splitting or bipedal laceration. I would love to have a few more of these around the tank but don't think I have the guts to put a scalpel to it.

Thank you!

I've only ever heard them as neglecta mushrooms, not sure if they name them more specifically.

It is a discoma mushroom, discoma's multiply by mainly by pedal laceration. They can also split, but that's a slow process. They reproduce quickly by moving around.

These reproduce in four ways I have seen:
1) Pedal laceration as they move.
2) Foot stretches and thins until head pops off. Foot regrows new head. Head settles somewhere and grows new foot.
3) They detach tiny pieces of the head? These pieces show up as just a glowing speck about 2-3 mm. They can show up anywhere in the aquarium not just near the parent mushroom. This could also be spawning. Either way I never see it happen. Just the almost microscopic green glowing specks which grow into a new neglecta.
4) I cut them. Either cut in half or just cut the head off and put the head in a condiment cup of rubble until it attaches. I keep the cup in the tank. Poke holes in the cup for water exchange.

Enjoy your neglecta world domination process.
