Hey guys! Long time listener, first time caller here. I without a doubt have Dino’s. I was wanting to pull on this group of experts to try to land a positive ID on what type I have. They mostly remain on the sand. Dont retreat much after a night of darkness. They did however disappear after a three day black out and running UV. But they came right back in three days. I attached pics I took from my microscope today to hopefully help ID.

Edit. Couldn't tell at first. Just zoomed into the picture but still a little fuzzy.

Looks like ostreopsis with the pointy ends which will release into the water at night. A UV sterilizer will take those out eventually. Probably need to run it longer as it could take several weeks sometimes.

If you have more on the sandbed they are probably a different type. Usually LCA which a UV Sterilizer plumbed in will not eliminate. It is common to get multiple types at the same time.

First thing is to raise your nitrates and phosphate and never let them bottom out. Then use a UV sterilizer and work on the ostreopsis first. Blackouts only put them into a cyst state if you are not using any other method to eliminate them.

If you can get another microscope pic with a closer zoom and more in focus.

They are crystal clear in the scope. It’s getting the clear iPhone pic is what I’m struggling with!
Tank is 7 months old. Always zero nitrates and pale SPS. I stoped dosing phyto daily and started dosing neonitrate because no matter how much I feed or how many fish I add, I could never register nitrates on salifert or Hanna. This switch is when the Dino’s appeared.
They ARE mostly on the sand. Did a three day blackout with UV running 24/7. Continued dosing nitrates during blackout. This got the nitrates up to 9. Dinos complete disappeared for three days, then started coming back.
Nitrates have now fallen to 5, Phos is at .1. Started dosing Phyto again, but not daily because it consumes nitrates faster than I cans dose.i also added a bottle of tiger pods.
Discovered this weekend that my pump had gone out on my UV. Don’t know if it it went out during the blackout or not. Judging my the smell of the water in the UV housing, it had been out for a hot minute.
Today is day three of the UV being operational again, having added pods, and started dosing phyto again. My eyes may be playing tricks on me, but I think it has receded a little.
PS, I also stopped dosing aminos

I'm not sure about types of Dino-flatulence however i had been fighting the stringy brown/red type for more than a month. I added a Aqua Ultraviolet 8 watt to my 35.2 waterbox. The next day there was very little. I then did a wipe down and rock blow off of the remaining flatulence and now less than a week later almost 100% gone.
