Hi,

I’ve been dosing nitrates for a couple of months as my tanks been consistently low (1-2ppm) and I’m now having some issues with a brown covering on the substrate when lights are on which slowly traps tiny bubbles under the slime but does not go stringy or snot like. It disappears at night as well.

I took a sample and put it under a scope, unfortunately it’s a rubbish scope but still gave me a idea of what I could be dealing with.

I believe the tiny ‘specs’ which are rice shaped are diatoms but the magnification is not great. The large darker brown circular blob was buzzing about and I found only a very small number compared to tiny rice specs I think these are Dinos?

Apologies for the crap photos but What do you think? Mostly diatoms and the start of Dinos?

These look like ingle cell amphidium but few. Seeing smaller cluster suggests diatoms which looks like shards of glass.
Can you post pics of tank under white lighting ?
