Hi guys
Just got a Diamond Goby from a friend that looks suspiciously skinny... doesn't look to me as he has been eating a lot of food. I'm going to keep him on my QT tank for a couple of weeks or until I'm sure he is fine. So here's my question: when you QT a Goby on a barebottom tank, do you normally add a dish/bowl with DT sand for him to sift or will he do just fine on barebottom?

Other than that, I will just improvise a cover for the QT tank and feed him mysis shrimp with vitamins...

Thanks!

He will starve without sand. If you get him eating (most will readily accept frozen) then the sand will be more of an activity for him to do. I had mine in a BB tank for 2 days before I did something. It was the most miserable 2 days that he has ever seen.

Sand can absorb some meds, so may make dosing meds difficult, or not all the way effective.

If the diamond goby is eating foods offered it will be fine without sand in qt. If not, sand isn't going to do much anyway because there is no microfauna in qt tank sand anyway.

... to revive this thread, I am planning to buy a Diamond Goby and wanted to place him in QT. Anyone successfully QT these little guys and what did you dose for medications? Could using hypo be used with sand and feeding live foods daily?

I'm about to do the same, care to share what you've been doing?

Haven’t gotten mine yet lol I was waiting for some info on the QT process.
Alright I'm gonna wing it and give it a little pile of sand. I did a ywg a few months ago for a different tank and it went splendidly. He tolerated copper fine....I'm worried about jumping on mine though.

I had a diamond in QT and used sand. He wasnt getting any food from it, since it was only 1 inch and new, but it gave him some stress relief/activity. He was moving it around and made a small hut by covering one of pvc pieces. Without it, I feel they get stressed. He was eating flakes, pellets fine. Been in my DT for a few month now, eats like a pig.
