Diamond Goby Missing, Tuxedo Urchin Died

Sounds like a newspaper headline. Anyway we got our urchin and goby at the same time, added to well established 13 gallon tank w a clownfish and two hermit crabs. They both had been doing great for 4 months and then the urchin died quickly. The goby is nowhere to be found. We moved our rocks a bit to try and find it, it it’s nowhere to be seen. Not seeing any appreciable mounds.
1. How long do we wait before really getting into the sand to find this guy?
2. What could be the reason for them dying at the same time (if that’s what’s going on)? Water tested normal, the rest of the crew is doing fine.

1. Never? You have to weight finding a body/closure against disturbing any crab that's in the sand bed.
2. It's unlikely they were related - possibly just coincidence. Urchins can be dying and hang on for many weeks before finally kicking the bucket.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of factors, and can include things like the tank conditions (salinity, etc.) they previously resided in, delays/conditions in shipping, acclimation, conditions of your tank, etc. Case in-point, I added two wrasses and 8 snails last week. The snails are all accounted for but I can't find either of the wrasses (I know one was injured by one of my fish). The other one... who knows. Either or both could show up in 6 months time (fish have done that before).
