My diamond goby turned up dead today after being totally fine.
I found him by the pistol shrimp hole.
I’m wondering if it was the pistol shrimp or the Dinos.
I’m have SCA Dino’s but it’s not horrible, he’s been through a far worse outbreak.
can a pistol shrimp kill a good sized diamond goby? And if so, how do I get rid of the shrimp

No it could stun it for a while but not kill I'd think. How long have you had the diamond goby? Also tank age and size? I ask because they often have nutritional issues from either transport or the tank they're in.

I’ve had him for about 6 months. Very healthy, quarantined.
He ate mysis, brine and flake food.
Tank is about 10 months old and 180 gallons with a refugium.

While dino can release low level toxins, they are also at times touchy and often offer no warning when in distress. Was the fish by chance thin ?

Most don’t survive very long in tanks. They struggle to eat brine and mysis shrimp. Their mouths aren’t designed for it. They feed by sifting microfauna from the sand. So though it may appear to eat the shrimp if often gets sived out. However you’d think a 180 with Refugium would provide the food it needs.

Pistol shrimp will stun prey, drag them into their burrow and kill and eat them in the burrow. However it’s usually on small inverts and I’ve never heard of fish being killed especially a relatively large one. That claw is impressive but it’s not usually lethal within itself.

I wonder about impact injury too. I had one that jumped with enough force to dislodge a heavy plastic piece of my lid.

No, he looked good. I made sure he ate well.
when I was doing research a lot of people said they die from not having anything in the sand to eat. So I made sure he ate mysis and made sure he always ate
