My giant torch snail died, but I need the shell, it smells really bad and I had to take out a part of his body but it still smells bad, I really need the shell for my big hermit crab but the but it would be better if the snail decomposed in the tank already, will this cause a lot of ammonia?

Test your ammonia if in doubt
Hot water and scrape the tissue out of the shell clean the inside fully then let your hermit have it . If anything thing dies in your tank and you can get it out remove straight away.if fish die behind rocks the clean up crew will eat the remains

Actually I don't know if it's harmful cuz my crabs seem to enjoy eating the snail, which is the decomposition method I wanted

Ammonia is at 0, I don't have fish but only crabs and if you look at my other reply they enjoy eating the dead snail, is that ok?

IME working in an aquarium store, it was always super important for us to remove any dead or empty snails asap and to give them a whif to check if they're okay. I personally would maybe boil it if you want the shell and then you should be okay to rinse it and put it back in.

I would remove everything dead but it’s your tank and your decision.

By the way I posted a thread about cooling fans for the tank (Peltier) for my beadlet anemones, you're the only one who has the same chiller, after doing a ton of research I still can't find any info about how cold the water can get in 5 gallons,

Please tell me if it will be able to cool down 5 gallons to at least 20c or 18

I bought one and been truthful
I think they are not the best save your money and buy a proper little chiller or a diy little fridge project
It’s the price that gets you hooked on the above chiller but a crude way of chilling water imo

Hilitand DC 12V Semiconductor Thermoelectric Cooling, Thermoelectric Cooler Peltier System for Aquarium (120W)

I just did a bunch of research on this myself and I believe it can.
The 120W you linked is made for up to 30L tanks 5 gallons being 18 liters. I was astonished to see it can cool water below freezing lol.

Sorry to see. Can be lack of space if it cant change to yet larger shell, low calcium, high pho, starvation and even age. Im sure you already removed and yes they smell horrid - if running carbon, you are covered or add carbon if not and smell and any toxins will subside

Regarding emergency, to keep in mind - Emergency is someone in crisis situation who is losing fish or coral, has a chemistry issue or tank leak and needs immediate attention

A fan pointed at the surface of your water would take your temperature down from 20c to 18 c
