I was just curious about how many ml you're dosing of sodium hydroxide.

I understand everyone situation is different, I'm just interested how much or how high you all are dosing sodium hydroxide for the pH boost or to raise your alkalinity.

How much would be to much? Can 60ml a day be to much sodium hydroxide to be dosing?

Wellll...... that's not helpful
I’m sorry. I have a close friend who lives in jail until next week because he had 3 DUI’s in a weekend. I have had too much vodka dosing and can’t understand why you are posting a volume dosage without a volume of the tank that’s getting the dose?

A good amount of information is lost when the proof of the liquor is not included with the quantity consumed, to use a drinking analogy.

I have just crawled out from my qt and decided to bump your question so that other reefers with more sobriety might engage you in discussion.

I would not feed my tank currently much less attempt to do calculations for proper dosing. I am impaired and a bump was safer under the circumstances.

So many alcohol references; that’s creative writing.

I dose 360mL of Na(OH)2 in my 260-gallon tank, evenly distributing it over 24 hours.

Dosing should be based on alk. Most people have alk demand of 0.5 to 3 dKH per day. If alk rises too much or you see excessive precipitation of calcium carbonate, you are dosing too much.

Sodium Hydroxide, or Kalkwasser is what I am dosing, nearly 100% of my top off water is 12.3 PH Kalk solution. I add it continuously during the day via a Dose Pump on my Apex.

Thank you. I had a lot of alcohol in my system when I posted it and I was hoping to help get the discussion started towards a better solution for the OP’s question.

Sodium Hydroxide is not Kalkwasser it’s lye. Kalkwasser is calcium hydroxide.

I’m a lightweight (6.3g total volume) and choose to water down my handle of SH (milk jug). I’m currently using just over .5 dkh per day. Spread out over the course of the day instead chugging it all down at once.

290 ML dosed through out the day keeps me between 8-9 ALK in 330 with 90 sump. I have to adjust once a week on average up or down to keep me where I want to be.
Using Randy's recipe.

I have been using sodium hydroxide for alk in a 250 gallon display tank of mostly acros. I started with Randy's recipe of 283g per gallon, adding the powder and filling with RODI water to the 3L line. My daily use got up to about 250-300ml a day to keep the tank 7.5-8 alk. I use a Redsea doser and monitor alk with a Trident and some manual checking on weekends.

I mix 3L (adjust the dry lye accordingly) at a time, in a gallon container and keep a few bottles in reserve. I use the doser to dose throughout the day to keep alkalinity stable, but dose more heavy after lights out to decrease the pH drop that occurs at night. I also use a CO2 scrubber, tank is in my living-room and the presence of people still caused some drops in pH until I put the scrubber in.

I recently started a more concentrated mix, 400g in 3L, or about 493g per gallon, this let me decrease dosing volume to about 125ml a day.

Love using sodium hydroxide with the CO2 scrubber, can easily keep pH at 8.4 or more (if I keep the scrubber reservoir filled with fresh medium) and I can control the pH swing at night.

WARNING: Sodium hydroxide is caustic and can cause serious burns if not handled properly!
