After two weeks the results are in! 163 people told us what lighting types they're using over their primary coral tank. The results are surprising:

1.8% use only metal halide
6.7% use only fluorescent (T-5)
60.1% use only LEDs

4.3% use metal halide & LEDs
20.2% use LEDs and T-5
3.1% use metal halide and T-5

3.7% use metal halide, T-5 and LEDs

9.8% use metal halides in alone or in some combination with other lighting
13.5% use T-5 alone or in some combination with other lighting
84% use LEDs alone or in some combination with other lighting

It would have been nice if similar surveys had been done periodically over the past 15 or so years.

Here's the link to the survey: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/w...rimary-coral-tank.904755/page-1#post-10152817

Sorry I missed this survey. You can add me to the LED camp bit I'm a new so it's really the only thing I see in great quantity. You're right that this would've been cool to see transition over the past 15 years or so. At one time it would've been "LED what?" :)

LEDs for the win! You can just see the 1.8% metal halide users hanging on until they can't find parts or bulbs anymore... :smiling-face-with-halo:
Funny as im a halide guy.
With that said I have now stepped into the 21st century as all my current systems are led!
My 80g im working to replace the 120 will be 2 xr15 gen 5's.
I have so many halide systems that I could start a dollar store, lol.
Really looking forward to the streamlined look of the xr15.
My 45 frag powered by 3 16hds.
I am really amazed at the colors im getting.

You can probably still complete the survey. I forgot when it'll officially end.

There are people in R2R looking for bulbs, if not full systems. Post them in the Classifieds.
