Newbie question:

First, I know I have some time to wait before adding corals.

i am sketching out the corals i want to place in my tank. All LPS and softies to start. May question is regarding placement on the “columns” on my structure that are pretty vertical. I don’t have a par meter but I was wondering are there corals that grow particularly good on more vertical surfaces?

Do the corals grow preferential up a structure like a plant or vine would? Meaning, should I place them lower on the columns to start?

Does being at a 90 degree angle from the light decrease the par the corals receive?

thanks for the help!

Having same problem! Ihad a pectinia that dies and had a strange curve to it and it worked perfectly! My blasto didint like being vertcal and I love blastos. I dont think par is high enough for sps. I also had a branching duncan that died and now I have the tall growing ones! Stumped! Hpw about chyastrea or however you spell it, chalice. I have a hollywood stunner but hear they have crazy long stingers! Maybe favia? Dont think anything wavy like gonis, torches hammers will work! Monti caps but not sure if par is high enough! cant do shrooms or zoas because of invasion! I do have one big yuma that has never put out a baby and had her for years so might try that but she isnt on a plug! UGGHH
