Your convict is rubbing and scratching itself on sand likely to irritants and my suspect is flukes. You can seafly add PraziPro which is safe for tank and can be used within tank. Apply Prazi dose at 85% of recommended and apply initial dosage known as an interval for 8 days, do a water change and do one more 8 day dose interval
Use airstone with prazi as it does reduce both oxygen and appetite. If running a skimmer, leave cup off first 24 hrs as skimmer will go nuts from the glycol solution in Prazi

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I don't think that black spot is anything serious.
I agree, the scratching/flashing that the fish shows is a sign of flukes.

I would try the Prazipro treatment as suggested, dose it for the actual water volume of the tank, which is about 85% of its "rated" volume.

I don't have a QT. Can I dose in DT and is it coral safe?

I just did a 3 day dose of Rally Pro based on your suggestion of fin rot on this same fish.

Can you explain the dosing 8 day interval. I don't understand.

Absolutely
Apply the prazi at 85% of bottle recommendation. Allow it to work within tank for 8 days. Day 9 do a water change and apply another dose lasting 8 days and you are done.

Yes you can do Prazi in the display tank however I Dont recommend mixing it with Ruby Rally pro. For Prazi, you want to remove carbon/chemi pure for now.
Any improvement yet with Ruby Rally? It generally takes 2-3 days to take effect

Well his fins aren't getting worse so that's a good sign. But the scratching and erradixt swimming is new.

You need to know

Purigen works with medications and can remain
Floss can remain
Sponge is perfect and you can run skimmer but take cup off as it will go nuts otherwise
UV can be run after 48 hrs of applying meds but ok with ruby rally pro

I performed the first dose on Tuesday evening. My convict tang is still scratching on the rocks and sand bed. Does it take some time for the medicine to work?

Day 8 of second prazi dose complete. Water change complete.
All his fins are back to normal and he isn't scratching or swimming erratically anymore. Looks like he even put some weight on.

Thank you for helping me save my Convict. He is my favorite in the tank.

Here are pics from today.

I recommend one more eight day regimen to assure they are truly gone. You can drop dose to 80% the second time around

So 3 dose rounds,? I already did 2 8 day increments. I need a third?
If you did two - stop. I thought it was one. You should be good moving forward

Just beware of any relapsing - the trouble is that prazi doesn’t kill fluke eggs. If any eggs escape the first two treatments, the infection can continue.

Does he have it again? Are the white bumps between the second stripe from his tale and the third stripe from his mouth flukes? He also has on near his mouth.

You can’t really see flukes, just the skin damage they can cause.

Is the tang still scratching? That’s a better sign of flukes.
