Colorado Sunburst Anemone Problem!!

Hey guys,

I'm new here so it's cool to meet you all. I'm posting this today because I noticed my poor Colorado Sunburst BTA is starting to look really strange... Never seen a nem look like it before. It almost looks as though it's withering. The tentacles look almost flat!! This occurred after I fed it yesterday and it showed the signs today! I am really worried about it as I want it to be a staple of a new tank I'm setting up. Any idea what's wrong with it? Thanks!

It's with two green bubble tips but it was completely isolated from them in a breeder box in the tank. I had it in isolation since I bought it, and I noticed it didn't get too much flow in there so I just now removed it from isolation.

I fed it mysis shrimp and it's been like that since this morning!

It could be chemical warfare or a bacteria thing. Normally it isn't recommended to mix high end anemones with others. In my experience the high end nem always dies.

to my knowledge, it’s a hit or miss with high end nems such as csb, inferno, lemon drop.

There is your problem. High end nems like csb do not mix well with others. Lots of people document this on the sunburst nem fb group page. Even if you have them isolated, if they are in the same tank, there will be some chemical ware fare between your nems. Rbta and other lower end nems mix fine.

I have another tank with black widow BTA and some softies, but more algae growth and such. Would you recommend I move it to that tank? Should I move the black widows out? This all happened in a day and I'm quite worried... Spent a paycheck on the poor thing.

Black widows don't mix well with CSBs. Start by running carbon.

The csb needs to be in its own tank with no other nems in with it. If you are on Facebook, look up the sunburst anemone page. Also look into ciprofloxacin, you will need that if you want to save your nem. It’s a long road ahead my friend.

If you feed them they’ll poop out brown stuff and shrivel up and that’s what it sounds like it’s doing. You don’t need to feed them they can just soak up the light.

I had the same happen after i split my rainbow anemone. It couldnt have been chem. Warfare as all the splits in that tank were of the same anemone. Very deflated looking tentacles and mouth slightly open, unfortunately after 2 weeks of trying to find and help the issue i had to get rid of it, as i was afraid it would continue to get worse and begin affecting my tank.

The one on the bottom survived just fine, but the top one continued to get worse, that was what had me so perplexed.

Thats what i had thought was the most likely culprit but it took me forever to find out any info, and i just caught it too late because of it. Luckily i still have multiple lol

Ok here's a super interesting update for all of you... While I was working on setting up the other running tank for the CSB, it's bubbles are coming back! All I did was remove it from the box and let it get some flow. I also switched the light to blue only. There are still some tentacles shrunk up and the mouth is still open a little, but I have high hopes and a lot of worry. We will see what happens!
