Hi there guys! I hear this group is very helpful and I definitely could use some help.

Testing parameters:
  • 0.0 ammonia
  • 0.0 nitrites
  • 0.1 nitrates
  • 7.6 dkh
  • 420 calcium
  • 0.15 phos
  • 1350 mag
  • 1.025 salinity

My clownfish has been swimming around and laying at the bottom. It’s like his back half doesn’t want to swim. He can’t go up even with the flow turned off. He tries to eat. White stringy poop. I dosed prazipro and it doesn’t seem to be helping. This has been happening since Thursday night.

The first video is of last night. The video in the breeder box was about a two days ago when I was trying to feed him and made sure he wasn’t picked on. That didn’t help. When I released him back into the DT he seemed less stressed so I left him be.

I also have tried feeding hexsheild and he doesnt seem to take that - but he will go after baby brine shrimp since they swim in front of his face. I'm at such a loss. I ordered Seachem Focus, Metro, and Kana but that wont arrive until friday.

Their diet is:
  • TDO Chromaboost
  • Live baby brine shrimp
  • Frozen mysis

So in total so far I have done:
  • Dosed prazipro on Friday June 12, 2020
  • Attempted to feed Hex Sheild
  • Did a freshwater bath / epsom salt bath
What can I do?

Videos are below:

White and Stringy poo, not eating, is probably internal pathogens.
The not eating makes it more difficult to get the meds directly to the gut for the most effect.
There are a variety of worm/parasite meds. Time is of the essence.

General Cure has both Metro + Prazi and covers most worms and parasites. And is widely available.

Discombed by AAP has a very broad treatment range and is my preferred option. Best to feed but can also use as a bath. They ship fast and are very nice people to deal with.

Hi. Sorry to see your ill clown.
How large is your tank and how long have you had the clown? What are the other inhabitants? Did it go through a qt?
20g
The other inhabitants are watchman goby + pistol pair, another clown, firefish, and inverts.
I had the clown about 4 or 5 days before he started showing symptoms.
No QT, set it up after I saw the issue - learned my lesson here.

Is metro DT safe? Or should i be doing this in a qt?

It could be that the clown was injured by the other clown. If they have not been together too long, dominance can be an issue. One will harass the other a lot. If it cannot handle it or will not submit, they can get ugly. In a 20g tank, there is not much room for the submissive to hide or get away. Can mean serious injury or death.
I think a qt is a good idea to medicate and get heathly. Then try to introduce with box or separation.

Continue PraziPro as white poo indicates internal issues

Second dose of prazipro seemed to help him out lots! Hes eating today and swimming around the top of the tank more. Thanks for the help guys!

Did you move him to a QT or leave him in the DT?
How did he take the medication, did you manage to get him to eat it?

I left him in the DT because I didnt want to move the fish and wanted to make sure the others didnt have it. Prazi is apparently reef safe.

I was thinking you went for the food medication option.

Hope it goes well, keep us updated!
