So my 23 gallon frag tank has been super cloudy the past 6 days and I’ve tried almost everything under the books to get it clear.
Frag tank is a Red Sea 350 V3 sump; I broke the baffles down. I run carbon, Sera Crystal clear media on a Sicce whale canister. I have a Nero 3 and a Tunze nano stream pump so I have lots of flow. I tried a submersible UV which didn’t help, I tried a 50% water change and it didn’t help. I tried dosing Dr Tim’s one and only and it didn’t help.
I do have lots of pods in the tank so my theory is they are spawning and spawning constantly so it’s making the water milky white. Does anyone have any suggestions for solutions or do you think I’m right about all the spawning pods?
Let me try and upload a picture.
P.S. This is an old photo but the tank still looks as cloudy.

try adding a filter sock to area where water comes in which will entrap the minute particles that form this cloudiness. Addionally, what is type of filter being urtilized. If AIO built in sump, you have nothing really entrapping particles thereby circulating water in a merry go round effect

I wish I could run a sock but I don’t have an option to run a sock. I mentioned in my first post I run a Sicce whale canister. It’s not an AIO. The tank used to be a sump but I broke the baffles down, that’s why there’s those black dots everywhere and the other black stuff in the tank. It used to be suuuper crystal clear but since I added more pods in preparation for mandarin gobies and pipefish, it became cloudy again.

I understand now what you mean by the filter sock. I’ll snag one at my work tomorrow. The sock will unfortunately be fully submerged in water so not sure how effective it will be but I’ll try anyway. I can grab socks for free at my work :)

I'm not actually seeing any filtration in your tank (other than the Sicce Whale), so I would probably look at something like this instead of the filter sock (which will do little if anything). And it will be far less maintenance than the Whale.

You probably want the Tidal 35 for your sump/frag tank conversion.

What are your nutrient numbers?

Also, look into DSR power filters. I promise you if build right it will clear that tank with no problem. Crystal clear.

my tank was crystal clear for 3 months. It only got this cloudy after adding a 2nd bottle of pods and I have wayyy too much in there imo. Im preparing for mandarins and pipefish in the future but I can’t add them with this lingering cloudiness. I doubt something like this filter will work but this definitely looks very interesting
My nutrients are as follows:
No3: 2
Po4: .11
Salinity: 1.024
Temp: 77.3
Ca: 480
Mg:1380
dKH: 8.6
pH: 8.6

Bro, trust me…the power filter will make your tank crystal clear. Your nutrients look ok, but I’d bring up nitrate to 5 minimal with that PO4 level. Should be more like 10 if you have .11 PO4

PO4 .10
N 10

Get a pump, buy the mod from Brett @Barraquatic or DIY one. Use Sera filter floss. Put it into the display (short-term) to clear the water.

BTW…if you’re in Asia (Thailand) there are some DSR power filters on that side of the world too. Especially over in Europe. You might be able to buy the mod locally for your pump.
