Hey, I don't see a thread for comparing clam prices across different locations and times of year. Hopefully we can get some pics and prices posted here just to get an idea of what these sexy mollusks go for. And possibly have an expert confirm that they are even labeled properly.

I just wish the Dallas area stores would carry clams. I haven't seen one for sale in a long time locally though I don't go to all the lfs like I used to. Last one I remember seeing was around $150 for a 2 to 3" maxima. It is really sad that I remember when I could get a small derasa for $15 and a small maxima for $25.

Well, the price for Maxima on our LFS range from $39~$99 but we Asian don't often buy or pay anything for the price that marked on the front of the tank. I seek out the owner and talk to him to get a deal for my clams, the clams on my tank front row I paid $69 each (regular marked price $125) , the smaller one on top of the rock back row are $38.99 each. Last weekend the store informed me that the price tag was an error on their end but they still honor me the deal the owner gave me, after that they changed the price on their tank from $39 to $89 for small Ultra Maxima, the big Maxima price $99, Derasa price $38.99
*There is another LFS selling Maxima with similar price (small Maxi price $79, big Maxi $125 the clams are a lot bigger than other LFS)

Des Moines Iowa, we don't have many LFS that get clams on a regular basis, but there is one store that sometimes gets very nice 6"-7" (an honest 6"-7" .... seems like clam sizes are always listed as being much larger than they really are) for $180 this past two weeks. I think they only got two of them in the past few months though.

If you can get Blue Squamosa for $79, buy all of them that they have. They are not all that available near me, but when they are, the are in the 250-300 range. These are the holy grail of clams for some people - very hardy and very beautiful... the ease of a squamosa and the beauty of a blue maxima.

In the Denver area, Cocos 3" Maximas are about 200, +/- 50. Croceas are $150-175. I saw some 1.5" very little ORA blue rim deresa the other day for $45, which is pretty cheap near me.

The prices in the Denver area for clams varies pretty dramatically. Some stores charge 250 for a 3 inch Maxima, but I've seen it as low as 75 for a clam of the same size and color. At the lowest, Squamosas and Derasas go for 50 here, and 5-6 inch Maximas go for 120.
