Hi all, I am absolutely terrible at math and hoping for a basic Cipro instruction for my reef tanks. I have a 240 gallon a 65 and a 32. My Cipro tabs are 500 mg both having serious bacterial outbreaks. Time to bite the bullet and dose. I've heard many good things here... recently changed my username an account because I couldn't work out my login… Formerly hillpag.

thanks so much! Glad I can lean on you, mathematicians and good folks out there!

also, advice on additional treatments? I'm having standard BJD issues.

Here’s the paragraph from the original post re BJD Treaments

“I used Ciprofloxacin at 0.125 mg / L. To achieve this I dissolved a 500 mg pill in 50 ml of RODI water, producing a 10 mg / ml solution (which I subsequently stored in the fridge). The aquarium system has 70 gal volume altogether (~265 L), so I added 3.3 ml of this solution to achieve 0.125 mg / L. I repeated this dose every 2 days for 3 doses altogether.”

You need to find out (estimate)!how many gallons of water you have in your system.
Once you know that multiple gallons x 3.875 to know how many liters you have.

Dissolve the tablet in 50ml of water ( hopefully you have a syringe or a cough syrup cup that has mls on it.
Math:

Your total Liters x 0.125mg/liter =mg you need to add.
For every 10mg you need add 1ml pillwater.

or instance, if you have 100liters of water in your system, then

100liters/0.125mg/liter =12.5 mg

12.5/10= 1.25 ml of pillwater.

I’m zonked currently, hope you can follow this trail

Edit: Dissolved the pills in RODI for best results. Cipro is light sensitive, I put foil on the container and store in the fridge

I dosed my 65g DT with one 125mg ciprofloaxin pill dissolved in tank water first. I did 3 total doses over 6 days so one dissolved pill every other day. You need to dose after lights out and remove chemical media but leave skimmer on.
