Hi Reef2Reef.
I purchase about a golball/tennisball sized cheato for BRS and I placed in an anemone box inside the display tank under the same blue lights I grow the coral with.
It’s about mid to top tank and I have it tumbling.
I read that this grows by about 50% in a week and I have not seen any growth in mine for about a month.
Any ideas about what I’m doing wrong?
Thank you!

You will need more light than just your blues. You will need grow lights.

Thank you for sending me in the right direction.
If I move it to the sump where there is currently no light and use a white blue and red grow light will I also grow other algae on the glass in the sump and possibly in the skimmer?
Right now no algae grows in the sump so it doesent require much maintenece. I’m thinking If I move it to the sump Il start growing other stuff down there that I will have to mantain.
Does that sound about right or no?
Thank you for you’re time and input!

In the sump I currently have:

- heater
-skimmed
-reef matt
-return pump
-small pump for flow in sump

Thank you again.

It belongs in a dedicated chamber in the sump with a proper grow light. But if you have a reef mat you probably will not have much success with chaeto there.

If your looking to up the nutrient export a algea scrubber may be what you want. Most refugiums are way to small.

I agree with this. I mainly use my fuge to help maintain PH balance running it opposite of the DT. It also helps with pods and natural filtration of the water passing through it like a kelp bed in the ocean.

Thank you everybody for helping out.
Il figure something out with the information provided.
I thought about an algae scrubber but I don’t think I have the room anymore.
Although I guess I could make some.
One last question, do you think I could just toss a grow light right above where it’s at now, like in between the blues without changing the blues?
Or will the blue light over power the grow light.
Thank you again!!
