Well I bought a vacuum cleaner for the house yesterday and it is the wrong type. I got one for tile and wood floors, I need one for the carpet. Any suggestions on what is a good vacuum?

Electrolux, and I sold them years ago. At the time, their vacuum was the only “real” vacuum on the market. Hoover, even their best machine isn’t really a vacuum. Vacuums should be air tight. And that’s why most don’t work well. If the vacuum uses large bags it’s a dead giveaway, don’t buy it. Dyson is expensive, bagless, and has the air tight seal........it’s a vacuum. Try Kenmore, from Sears, but buy a bagless vacuum they work better.

I'd go for a Dyson, best vacuum I've owned. I have had mine for close to 4 years now, still runs strong. Downside is they are expensive as Tautog said.

I have had a Kenmore for years, it really SUCKS, (in a good way sorry couldn't help it) I bought it based off of Consumer Reports recommendation years ago and this thing could still suck start a Harley.

Thanks everyone We have a Electrolux canister vacuum it is a great vacuum problem is we lost the piece that holds the bag in the vacuum so we can not use it. It seems every machine has a special part only for that gen.

Use tape to keep the door closed, Duck Tape, these machines will not work with a open or semi open door, without a seal it’s really not a vacuum, and that’s why the bag actually fills up. Most vacuums don’t fill their bags because there’s no seal, and the motor pulls the dirt directly to the motor. Once the bag is half full the motor can’t SUCK threw all the dirt. Electrolux bags fill from the outside in, hence why they fill up.

Our Dyson was the best vacuum we ever owned. We normally go through vacuums at least yearly but that one has lasted a long time. That being said, just picked up a Roomba robot vacuum....not sure how it will be long term but man is it fun to watch lol.

The problem with Kenmore is you can only get them serviced at Sears. Miele is high quality, powerful and has multiple filters so you’ll never have that vacuum smell (you’re actually smelling rotting hair and skin cells). Royal is also good.

+3 on the dyson, parents have owned one for 5 years now with 0 issues. We bought a cordless dyson 2 years ago and it's still running great both on carpet and on hard floors. Only three downsides to the cordless 1. The battery on high power mode lasts ~20 minutes. 2. on carpet it sucks up so much nasty stuff it only takes 2-3 minutes to fill up so your emptying it often. And 3. You can't swap batteries unless you really want to void the warranty lol so when the battery starts losing it's capacity to hold a charge you really have to purchase a whole new vacuum or atleast that's what they want you to do.

Has anyone checked out WOOT I guess they sell refurb. vacuums, yeah I brought up the question at a after Wedding party.

Consider removing the carpet I would like to remove the carpet from the bedrooms and then just add area rugs.

Rainbow vacuum is very good. Just on the heavy side but very effective on carpets

I loved my shark but I have to say that I love my Dyson more. If you decide to go with Dyson just make sure to the newer version, much more options.

I have a Dyson dc4 Animal. It is about 17 years old and still works great. I take it completely apart at least once a year, including disassembling the canister.
We also have 2 Roombas and that is mainly what I use now. The main reason is any other vacuum has an exhaust for the air to blow out of the vacuum. This always results in pet hair/dust/whatever blowing up into the air. The Roomba eliminates this and picks up ALL the hair and dust.

I am in the process of cutting a dowel rod into slices and putting it under the legs of the furniture so roomba will fit under everything.

We recently got two ferrets and I was mortified when they went under some of the furniture and came out looking like living dust bunnies.
