Hi,

I purchased a carpenter's flasher wrasse, it was sold to me as a 'young male'. A week later I saw another 'young male' carpenter's flasher wrasse at another store and they looked night and day different. Since I got the wrasse I had my doubts if it was actually a male. It doesn't yet have any extended rays or much color in it's fins or belly. So my question is, is my fish a male, a female, or is it a juvenile and too young to tell? I'll post the best pictures I could get, but it's not a very co-operative fish when it come's to getting pictures. Thanks for your help.

I believe you do have a young male, stripes are forming around the face. Here is mine, which is supposed to be a carpenters also though I’m not positive, a little more developed and may or may not be considered a terminal phase male.

And this one is an internet picture, I assume fully transformed and maybe in breeding colors?

With that forked tail don't see that being a carpenters. I'm guessing some flasher hybrid. Whoever's fish it is it sure is beautiful. @evolved @eatbreakfast
I agree op's fish is initial phase male.
