Hello guys,

I have a 135g with a bunch of mini SPS colonies, sps frags everywhere, 2 medium Maxima, and 1 small maxima clam. I switched over to 2 part dosing about 6 months ago and in the begining I was having a lot of problems. I seem to have everything under control, but I cant seem to get my alk up at 8.5. I would adjust the doser to dose a little more but I could only get to 8.25. I'm dosing 150ml of Alk and Calicium a day, is that too much? I have spoken to BRS and they said that sometimes people overdose. Anybody have anything similar happen to them? Thanks

Overdosing would cause cal and alk swings which can be big trouble... How often do you test?

Have you tested your magnesium? Without sufficient mag levels, you own't be able to raise your Ca & Alk to higher levels.

It's not too much if that is what your tank is consuming daily. I'm currently at 135ml / day.
8.25dkh is not a bad number, what is your goal? If your goal is say 9dkh, then you would need bump up the daily dosing (watch your mag) until you get to a point that you are stable at 9dkh.

Yes, you can overdose. I dose 100 ml of B-Ionic each day in my 65, which has several mature LPS colonies. Your dosing is probably not too high. I'd also suggest you consider your magnesium. It's probably not high enough.

Thanks everyone. I just tested my water and got 8.1dkh, 400 calcium, 1400 mag. And I'm now dosing 150ml of Alk/Cal from BRS reciepie 1. I'm trying to keep my alk at around 8.5-9.

Not sure about others, but in my systems I've always ended up having to dose a higher amount of alk than calc or the proportionate calc. Been the same for B-ionic and BRS 2 part, my tanks just consume more of the calc than they do the alk-possibly due to aragonite sand instead of crushed coral? Don't know, but yea, don't feel compelled to dose in a 1-1 ratio at all times.

check your levels and dose accordingly. if not using b-ionic you must also dose magnesium. thats why they sell there complete system with all three parts. in my 70 gallon i dose almost 80 ml of each part. ther is a slight difference but its not hugh
