Can I use Epsom salt for magnesium supplementtation in a reef aquarium

I was told I could do this but Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate while the supplements you buy are magnesium chloride

No Worries, ESV uses it in their mix.

I would not suggest exclusively using magnesium sulfate. It will push sulfates too high.

You can use magnesium chloride, or better yet, a mix of predominantly magnesium chloride and some magnesium sulfate.

There are ratios of them you should use if you opt for the mix.
