Can my rock anemone eat my cleaner shrimp? It sure looks he’s sticking out of the anemone right now and I can’t find him elsewhere. I’m hoping this is just a molt, do anemones eat that?

Second new reefer question while I’m posting the picture. This is an established tank but was probably stressed by moving it 2 months ago and then doing a new scape a month ago. So phos has been up and I’ve been getting some diatom brow algae blooms. I’ve noticed this green hair algae on this one rock the past 2 weeks. How should I best handle it? Just wait it out or more aggressively work on removal? I don’t want it to spread.

Any advice is appreciated!

It is possible, rock anemones are quite clingy when they want to be; but I find it unlikely. The more likely scenario is that your shrimp molted and it is eating the molt.

Typical algae management, water changes, feed less, manually remove as much as possible, try to out-compete with a refugium, ato or algae reactor...

Thank you! I appreciate the advice. Fingers crossed the cleaner shows up tonight during feeding.

I was shocked when my cleaner shrimp molted. Thought it was dead, the shell was a perfect replica. I threw away and saw shrimp later that night (I was freaking out). Since then, he has molted 4 times in as many months. Crazy.
