started with a 20, then a 40, then 75, (still have these running) now building a 100gal reef. (This has all been within the last year) For my experienced people, when does it stop :)
(Gotta tell the wife that they just magically appear in my cart) LOL
On a side note, what’s the most expensive fish you guys have bought?

It stops when you've run out of room! Myself, I started with a 29, then 75, then 90. I'm without any of these at present but my next build will be 203. And there it will stop. Just because it's the biggest tank I can fit on my main level.

It kinda slows down after a while. You’ll find the fish that you really love most (wrasses, for me), and kind of focus on those. Also, having a group that you really love and do well with each other can slow things down. You won’t buy as much because you’ll have fish you like and just enjoy seeing them grow fat and happy in a nice community.

Yeah I can see that, I have a list and once it’s filled I don’t really know what else I’ll get

I used to have two 6ft 180g in the living room, one fresh one salt, a 6ft 150g in the dining room, a 75g in my daughters room, and a reefer 170 in our bedroom. This in ranch house less than 1200 sf. It stopped when I just couldn't bring myself to put a pico in my bathroom lol

EDIT : I still have a few fish I would like to have but my current gang gets along so well I'm afraid to add new ones and upset things like @jkcoral mentioned.

I think a nice little 10gal cube would be nice bathroom decoration…

My most expensive fish is an adult Yellow tang. Way too expensive but I really wanted a big one.

I’m not buying any more fish, as the tank is full and every fish I add brings worries about disease.

knowing there’s no way to 100% guarantee disease, and it can kill $1000s worth of fish, makes me wanna not do it

For me, when the maintenance needed to care for all my fish/tanks started to make the hobby too labor intensive, then I knew I needed to stop. Circumstance necessitated that I enter into a caregiver role which was overwhelming. At the time I had a 70 gallon, a 100 gallon and a 125 gallon tanks and I just couldn't keep up the water changes so I sold my livestock and then sold the tanks and downsized to a 36 gallon. It was sad but not as sad as it would have been to lose animals that I couldn't properly care for. I upgraded to a 56 gallon about 8 years ago and am satisfied.

I’m sure it’s nice to look at your fish and not stress knowing you have hours of maintenance ahead of you
