Hi, anyone who is using a calcium reactor have a large gas - fluid level at the top of the reactor?

My tank size is 250 gallons but has 420 gallons of total volume.
heavy SPS which takes about 550 ml of BRS soda ash a day
I have one of the Aquarium Engineering Auto calcium reactors but converted it to use a ph probe
running 3 bubbles per second
pH 6.35
Kamoer STP peristaltic pump running at 100ml/min
effluent dkh is 20

I get this large bubble forming at the top which reaches the recirculating pump every 4-5 days.

Is anyone running their reactors at this bubble rate? and having a gas bubble collect at the top?

Thanks

O

That means to much gas. Where is your probe? At the top?
Can you move that and have the top either recirculate to the pump or be your draw for the tank?
Need to check your bubble power minute rate and ml per minute.

I've found that I occasionally (1-2 times a year) might have to "burp" the first chamber of my GeosReef calcium reactor.

For me this isn't to big an issue as by the time that's happening I'm usually also already needing to replenish the reactor media.

First I would check to make sure the reactor's circulation pump is still working correctly.

If after you burp the reactor and make sure the circulation pump is good, I would try turning down the bubble size of your CO2 doser to try to give your pump more time to mix incorporate the CO2 bubbles. This of course may/will raise the pH in your reactor.

Is the Aquarium Engineering an traditional reactor or a saturation one?

If traditional, then it could be a few things:
  • You are using too much gas.
  • You have a leak. Leaks in CaRx draw air in and do not always let liquid out. They can be a real pain to find. I had one once and the top of my Korallin would fill up even after I turned the co2 bottle off.
  • You have bubbles from the sump getting sucked into the feed.
