I have to say I really hate filter socks and was thinking of using a large bulkhead fitting to convert over to just a pvc drain pipe. Has anyone done this before?
Wouldn’t it be easier to cover / glue a piece of plexiglass over the sock holder opening and use a bulkhead sized for the pipe you want to run?

Seems like it be expensive fix to the problem. I assume that you want to keep flow from getting noisy without sock. I also do not appreciate installed filter socks (although I do like to clamp to inside of tank during cleaning) so I just used a plastic insert replacement and cut a sponge (or rollup a sheet) or drop some bag of something or other or even just go empty. It restricts flow enough to not need anything else to quiet it down.
