Good evening from TX everyone!

Just picked up this green bubble tip a few hours ago for next to nothing at a LFS. It seems to have a white chalky substance on it? Is it possibly bleaching? Like I said I picked it up for around $15 so I figured I’d give it a shot. It did take some mysis shrimp. This is my first anemone, very comfortable with softies and LPS.

(The white color around the outer ring)
Thanks!

I've seen some green BTA's before and I think that white is just normal coloration. It's not all shriveled up which is an excellent sign. I'd give it a few days to adjust and see how it's doing after a few days.
My first evening my RBTA shriveled way up as the lights dimmed and looked terrible but was fine the next day.

I think I'd only start to be concerned if it does one of the following:
  • Shrivels way up and deflates completely but leaves its tentacles hanging out (not tucked in like it was eating something). I will note, my RBTA did this the very first night as it adjusted but it was just fine after that, so I'd only intervene if it continued to do this over an extended period of time.
  • Expels a dark goop/stringy stuff. This could be a sign of the BTA expelling its zooxanthella which is what I would expect if it were actually bleaching.
I'm not seeing either in your picture, so I'd just observe for now and keep your parameters stable.

Keep in mind, it may move a bunch too, mine moved multiple times over the first couple weeks until it found its happy place. It's perfectly normal.

All that aside, congrats on your first anemone! Sounds like you got an excellent deal on it.
Are you planning on having clownfish? If not, I'd highly suggest a porcelain crab, I just got one last week and it made itself at home in my RBTA right away and it's fun to see it chilling in the anemone.

I’ve got a single beautiful perc clown. Tends to stay in the back corner or tank for most of the day. Only other fish are a yellow watchman and mandarin. All doing very well, I’m hoping she host the nem but she hasn’t had any interest in my hammers or large Duncan colony in the last 6months :(
