Hey all, probably wrong place but I’m looking to trade off ~2 pitho crabs I purchased from reef cleaners.

I bought 4 to address a pretty bad bubble algae outbreak (bubbles on rocks, bubbles on walls, bubbles on sand, bubbles on zoas, bubbles on bubbles). You name it - it had a bubble.

2 weeks later and my 40B is pretty much near spotless. They’ve decimated the bubbles and pay no interest in corals or fish pellets.

I’d prefer not to let them starve to death, so im
Hoping to give 2 away free to a bubble filled home (they also will eat hair algae and bryopsis if it’s available).

I’m located in central NJ and would be happy to bag ‘em up and meet to give them a new home.

Added a poor photo of a pitho holding his bubble trophy

They're called pitho crabs. They are excellent at mowing down the bubbles. I have several, myself.

Too bad it would be impractical to ship these. I've got a ton of bubbles in my tank.

If you’re ever upping your CUC, reefcleaners is where I found em! Even got myself some limpets/blue knuckle hermits since I (think) I had to hit $50 for shipping

Ya, the $50 is the issue, especially for a 25g tank. I already have a ton of snails, really just need the crabs.

Ahh fair enough. I haven’t seen pitho crabs at any LFS. Reef cleaners goes as far as to claim the only vendor with them available, but I saw another vendor at reefapalooza this year. So sounds like they’re becoming more available!

I just got 5 in today from reef cleaners and looking forward to them taking care of the bubble algae in my display, especially after seeing them go to town on some I placed in with them during acclimation. Once they're done in there I would love to put them in my fuge where there is massive amounts of bubble algae but afraid they would also eat all the macroalgae I also have in there.

These guys are workhorses and have really cleaned my tank up of almost all algae (not just bubble) as I try to bring up my no3 and po4 from bottoming out. They have not bothered any coral and when on or near one they were just cleaning up any algae on frag plug. My tank is lps and sps.
