Anyone know why my BTA is doing this? Have had it for about a week and had been looking fantastic up until now. So confused.

It’s just cocooning up. They do that for a lot of reasons, has to poop, night cycle, changes in water chemistry, protection, the clownfish insulted it’s mother…

it should open back up in the next day or so if not in a few hours

Yeah, I’ve only had mine for a month or two, probably got it a little early too. Took a solid 2-3 weeks for it to really settle in and be comfortable. Hood lights helped tho

Yeah… my clowns don’t even know of it’s existence…

although due to some ick everything has been moved around. Bad reason to spend money I don’t have on a new tank
took mine at least 6 months. wouldn't go near it for anything. then one day had a change of mind and hasn't left since.

Generally clown fish once hosted, the anemone would not shrink up.

Balloon/shape is more often from feeding, , I feed my bta and mushrooms and they all form this purple umbrella shape in your picture, I'm no expert but shrinking occurs more when annoyed

Mine did that before taking a big ol' poo. Even more so, and more frequently, if I had been target feeding it shrimp bits and whatnot. Even without the pooing and feeding, it would constantly be inflating/deflating/pulling in on itself, which from my understanding is like them peeing.
