Black sand more like gravel sandsifters

I bought some live Hawaii's black sand but the size is more like gravel can sand sifters work in this I know goby’s wouldn’t but what about others or would I have to put a layer of sand and just have bristleworms for the gravel. Is there a way to make it smaller without contamination or killing off the bacteria?

Nassarius snail and conch would be my go to over bristleworms. Can you post a picture of the gravel?

as far as breaking it up i have no clue but you can probably get a conch or m a y b e sand sifter star, i’m sure someone else has better idea than me

I have the same "sand" as u and a diamond goby and does great with it!!! My goby is 3in... Hope that helps
