Birdsnest Developing White Spots

My birdsnest was doing well up, for several months, until a week ago. It appears that it's developing bald white spots. Specifically the based of the frag. I've been messing around with lighting and flow to dial that in for my SPS frags. Currently I am treating my bryopsis with fluconazole, so I'm not sure if that may have influenced it.

My lights are usually around 90% for the purple and blue channels. I never changed more than 10% in either direction. And it was more only SPS frag until this week, so I didn't have any to compare it to

It was high up on my aquascape. I added a piece of rock though and moved it to the sand temporarily.

How ling did it take that white spot to appear? Was it a short amount of time?

It could be rapid tissue necrosis (RTN). RTN

I would keep an eye on it and if it expands, I would frag it off and keep the healthier section. You might also have luck with dipping it.

I would say the larger white patch near the base formed over like 2 weeks. The smaller spots on top were more recent and happened over a couple of days

Then it could be STN, but still the same thing.

Just how long it takes to effect the coral. I would dip and possible frag.

Run some charcoal in your system as the bacteria could be in the water column

I took out the carbon as part of the fluconazole treatment. Should I put that back in too? I’ll dip the coral as soon as I can

My bad. I must’ve glanced over that. The carbon has been out for the 1.5 weeks that the fluconazole has been running

I'm not sure exactly what causes it to happen. I know that it is because protozoa are attacking/eating the coral, but as for how it is introduced, I don't know.

Its Possibly been in the tank for a while, and just didn't progress to a point to cause any real damage.

There may be in-tank remedies that you can use.
