I just purchased a BioCube 16 and I'm planning to order the InTank media basket and stock with filter floss, Chemipure Elite, and Purigen. Do I still need to use the stock filter that comes with the unit? I'd like to have the heater in chamber 1, InTank basket in chamber 2 and pump in chamber 3. Will that set-up work ok? Where can I add the skimmer? Chamber 1 with the heater?

Welcome to Reef2Reef! I've never had a Biocube system, but I'm sure others who have will be by shortly.

Good luck with your tank!

Thank you! I’m excited to get started but I just went to check the lights and there’s no power adapter. I contract Coralife and they want proof of purchase. It was bought from marketplace from a retailer that closed their store earlier this year so I don’t have it but I found one on amazon that should work. Wish me luck!

That's a bummer! But if you're going to order a new light, do you mind if I ask what you're going with?

I'm just going to go with a new power supply for now. I might update a few things down the road but starting out I'm just going to use the lights and pump from that came with the unit. I'm so stressed already that I dont want to add to it. Hopefully I'm successful and can justify the upgrades later :)

Don't stress, your tank will turn out fine. Just make sure to read, research, and ask questions here if you need clarification.

And someone with a Biocube WILL see your post and answer your original question. If they don't, just repost it in the section on filtration.

Good luck!

No you don’t. I have heater in chamber 1. I have two intank media baskets in chamber two. One is a fuge and the other holds carbon and matrix compound. The pump is in chamber 3. Hope this helps. Skimmer would go in chamber 2 if you decide to get one. Of course mine is a Biocube 32 but setup should be identical.

Excellent! Thats what I thought. I thought about the skimmer and InTank media basket in chamber 2, will they both fit? I'm brand new so I'm not sure how the skimmer attaches. I assumed the media basket would take up all of chamber 2.

I’m not sure if they both fit. I don’t run a skimmer. Haven’t found a need to. No the media basket only takes up about half of chamber 2.

I've got a biocube29, so not sure measurements difference, but I put a skimmer and heater in chamber 1, intank media basket and Santa Monica algae scrubber in chamber 2, and return pump in chamber 3 plumbed through a UV sanitizer.

I have seen people put skimmers in chamber 2, but I think you'll need an auto top off bc chambers 2/3 evaporate and the changing water level will throw off the skimmer from functioning correctly.

Equipment and what not are in my tank post, if you want to look. Just his my 1 year, and it all seems to be working well together.

Thanks. I’ll definitely check out your tank post!
