I have some very fine scratches on my front glass from a Flipper Edge scraper. Do not use metal blades if you like your tank!!!!!!!

wondering what i need to do to remove them… most of the scratches are at the top of the tank. So i could drain it half way and really get in there. Would love to hear ideas. So far i have heard of using cerium oxide and also jewelers rouge. Anyone with any experience in this field please reach out.

Thanks,

Nick

Both of those might work, but it's tedious, time consuming and messy. I'm not sure what effects, if any, that they'll have on your tank inhabitants, and because of that, I wouldn't recommend using either unless you're willing to empty the tank completely.

And FWIW, I've been using metal blades for quite some time and don't have any scratches because of them.

I use a TUNZE plastic scrubber and a flipper and haven't gotten any scratches on my tank either.

Easy to remove scratches on glass tanks: get a new tank or go with acrylics that you can buff out. Trying to remove scratches from glass tanks might be very time consuming and will do more harm than good, IME.

I also scratched my last tank using the flipper.....I threw it in the trash. I think it happens during the flip, not using it as a scraper. I use regular metal blade scrapers all the time with no issues.
