I had to tear down a glass aquarium glued with silicone sealant (and counting).
Tried to use acetone but it didn't help much. Then tried paint thinner and orange peel oil.
Paint thinner help when the gap is small and you it want to inside by capilarity. But it evaporates too quick.
But orange peel oil (limonene, I have a bottle to dissolve hips support for 3d printing) works so well. It seems to dissolve silicone slowly and helps lubrificante the razor blade and steel wool in the glass. It's and oil and don't evaporates too fast. Good to wet the blade when cutting the joint.
You still need to scrape the excess and apply elbow grease, but saves a lot of grease.
It's a little expensive, but it is there any better alternative? Something that works and is not too dangerous to our health?
Anyone else tried it?
I noticed that it hurt the skin after some time of exposure (not like paint thinner, but beware). Check the label and health risks before using chemicals.
It's hard to find a chemical that reacts with silicone. Just orange peel oil and thinner seems to dissolve it. I don't know if it works with every silicone out there.
