I have a used tank I'm setting up and there are a couple areas on the bottom seam that I would like to reinforce. The tank has a top and bottom metal perimeter brace. However the bottom is the black plastic/pvc stuff. Which black silicone is the best to use? To me it looks like the typical aquarium safe black silicone.

Yup, I think it’s actually licorice? :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Unless you reseal the tank piling up silicone doesn’t add strength to the bond. If you just want a cosmetically cleaner look it isn’t worth much else. I would read the tube and see if it is good for plastic bonding, or not?

Who is the Aquarium made by? I have never seen an Aquarium that is glass with one structural panel plastic. I did see a AIO Aquarium that had a Thin ABS Sheet Glued into the bottom. I think the Aquarium was intended to be a bare bottom tank, and the ABS was to prevent rocks from damaging the glass. I have an Oceanic AIO That has the divider panel as ABS, but there is little to no Hydraulic Pressure on this. My 120 and 65 Gallon have Glue Bonded ABS and Glass Overflows.

I looked them up, A.G.E. Acrylic and Glass Exhibits. Nothing much on their site about their aquariums and how they are constructed. I would contact them, for guidance on how to repair it. With as many different manufacturers of Silicone, they maybe using something that’s highly specialized.

Old thread, I know. Based on forum info I bought this for a repair. However, looked up some technical info and found this: https://www.swiftsupplies.com.au/assets/files/Momentive RTV 100 Series Silicone TDS.pdf

This language of most concern: "Do not use on submerged joints where porous substrates permit water to the bond interface. Do not use for aquarium manufacturing."

Can someone speak to this apparent discrepancy?
I have used the 108 series in black to do all my seals on new tanks and old .... this stuff is aquarium safe , reef safe and holds stronger than you can imagine !! i would not use any other sealant myself .

This is just my opinion based on my experiance with this and others

Interesting if accurate.
I have a 10 year old tank done with Momentive TRV 103. Still holding strong.
I have another that was made with the same in 2014 and another done about 5-6 years ago

EXACTLY ! Im going on 6 years with my current tank ( DD300 ) and i had a 180 running for 5 years prior to this where i went over every single seam on each tank with Momentive 108 including gluing down thick acrylic board to the bottoms and ZERO ISSUES and i run a heavy SPS dominant tank.
