Hi guys, picked up an 85g today (4'x20"x21") and want advice for best lighting.

I currently have a 15g that will be shut down once new tank is cycled which has a brand new (bought 2 weeks ago) prime 16hd.

Should I just buy more primes, if so how many? or return/sell and get something else?

All advice appreciated

Many thanks

I guess I should add that I only intend to keep softies and lps, and will not be touching sps.

FWIW as I’m new, but am setting up an 83g (48x20x20) that will be LPS dominant as well. I am looking at a mix of three Quanta Pro lights.

Owner operated and designed. Affordable, compared to big brands. Easy set and forget functioning. New version coming soon with dimmers and other improvements.

I’m looking at 2 Meso Blue and 1 Reef Crest.

48” LPS / Softie reef lighting

Please. Step into my office…

Best is subjective :) Please see my 48” LPS dominant reef, almost all this grown from frags sometime over last 4 years, under this light. More pics are in my tank thread

How do you plan on fitting these? Suspended or?

when I reached out to the owner, he stated they are working on a tank mounting kit to go with the updated version. I’m still deciding if I’ll go with that or hang them.

I have a relatively low ceiling in the basement where I’ll be putting the tank, so that is an easy option for me.

What is perhaps most attractive about these for me as a new reefer is that the spectrum is already dialed in and I can work with the maker/seller to customize the mix of strips that makes the most sense for me. This will hopefully prevent me from being tempted to constantly mess with settings.

I am keeping my eye on the system that @VintageReefer uses as well, because their tank is inspiring and they are a great supportive member of the community.

You’re welcome. The one I linked is my exact unit, the V2+ which is programmable with a remote and does not use Wi-Fi. Personally I like this a lot

They have since come out with the V2 Pro, which ditched the remote for WiFi and an app, but otherwise is the same light but $125 more

I don’t ever feel I need an app, and I like my wireless remote which is super reliable regardless of my home network status, but it’s up to the consumer. They sell both versions and both come with the same warranty.

If you ever wanted to do sps, these could handle it anywhere in the tank. Also price includes both tank mount legs and the hanging kit

A good starting point is AB+ and then you can adjust from there

With the photons The AB+ program is simply Channels 1, 2, and 4 at .25 x CH3, 5, and 6, so red, green, white at .25x the royal blue, cool blue, and violet channels. There is a 1 hour ramp up and ramp down time.

So if channel 3, 5 and 6 are 40%, then 1, 2 and 4 are 10%
