Sorry I forgot to mention I had the fish for just about a month. Water parametersLooks pretty large to be an injury, but maybe. How long have you had the fish and did this develop overnight, or did it grow slowly over days?
Jay
The other possible diagnosis is Lymphocystis, a mild, non fatal, non treatable viral disease that will go away in a month or so (may get worse for a time though).Sorry I forgot to mention I had the fish for just about a month. Water parameters

Will that spread to other fish or should I just monitor? The other possible diagnosis is Lymphocystis, a mild, non fatal, non treatable viral disease that will go away in a month or so (may get worse for a time though).
Injuries are usually “subtractive”, the injured area loses tissue. Lymphocystis virus causes the skin cells to grow larger, so the whole lesion looks bigger than the original area.

I appreciate your time.
Would you recommend putting him in quarantine? He’s pretty slow. I could probably scoop them up. He’s not afraid of my hand or the net.It can be contagious to other fish, but almost always, only newly acquired fish of certain species. Long term captives have almost always been exposed to it. Think chicken pox in people....
No - if it isn’t lymphocystis and is something else, moving it now won’t protect any other fish as they’ve already been exposed.Would you recommend putting him in quarantine? He’s pretty slow. I could probably scoop them up. He’s not afraid of my hand or the net.
