I have been getting asked a lot of question form new reefers on what all is involved in maintaining a saltwater reef tank. Yesterday i decided to film my "weekly" routine of maintenance to give a good overview of what all is involved in maintaining a reef tank.
Below are my general weekly steps
1. Prepare/mix your salt water
2. Refill your top off water with RODI water
3. Check salinity of tank/ top off water to verify it matches (i use 1.025 specific gravity)
4. Add new saltwater to the tank/sump (if its a large tank!) With a small tank drain out the water first
5. Vacuum a small section of the sand bed until I have removed as much was as i have added.
6. If you dose, check your Calcium/Alkalinity containers to ensure you are not running low.
7. Change out the filter socks if you run them.
8. Test your tank parameters and ensure everything is in check
