First off, thanks for this resource. I am gaining tons of insight for the reef tank I will be starting.

It appears soft corals will be good for me to start with. The common suggestion is to place them on islands to help prevent overcrowding and not taking over the tank. So which corals would be good for a beginner to place on the aquascape? Currently, I am planning on a Biocube 32 so I will initially have the stock light.

They are not invasive like the brown.

I wouldn't put a sarcophyon on top unless you can find a yellow, but they are not beginner friendly. Will get huge and shade below. Duncan would be good. Green finger leathers stay pretty small and are like weeds but easy to cull.

Caulastrea are easy. As they grow they will shade but also easy to clip. The neon green ones are very pretty and relatively inexpensive.

I’ve been growing all of these with stock lighting in my 32 g Biocube. Ask me if you want any specifics.

Let’s start from the top, far left growing up the side a sinularia, then top left: duncan, birdsnest, green tipped torch and NY Knicks torch. Below from the left: kryptonite candy cane, pinstriped candy cane, acan, red monti cap. Below left to right: Florida ricordea, orange Florida ricordea, rodactis mushrooms, superman mushroom, blastoma and under the torches purple tip hammer, blue tipped frogspawn , orange tipped frogspawn and green tipped hammer and you said you knew the ones on the sand.

Thanks, I will be researching these corals. You have a great looking tank.
Just remember you are not in Kansas City anymore, just follow the yellow brick road! Feel free to reach out any time, good luck!
